The executive leadership seeks a seasoned construction executive who can serve as an operational leader as well as a talent developer. The chosen EVP candidate should have demonstrated throughout his or her career an ability to manage a complex construction organization and be well versed in business development, finance and operations. THE OPPORTUNITY

The EVP will be responsible for $2.5 billion of annual construction revenue across a defined geographic region, including sales, planning, talent management and profitability in alignment with corporate goals, systems, processes and Core Values. The geographic territory will be defined based on the candidate’s place of residence. It is likely that the EVP will be on the road as much as 50% of the time, attending to the business wherever the need is greatest.

Key areas of oversight and focus will include: overall company and business unit strategy, risk management, operating proficiency and safety, sales acumen, talent management, top line and bottom line objectives, growth (people and investments), specific high profile client pursuits and national accounts, as well as advancing the culture and the brand. It will also be crucial that this individual serves as a role model and mentor to others in their business unit and the company as a whole.

The role of mentor and model construction executive cannot be overstated. It is the intent to hire a values based individual who will leave a lasting impression on the business. Serving as a coach, mentor, and professional collaborator, the EVP will prepare the current Business Unit Leaders for future career development, ensuring the next generation of leaders are well-rounded. The successful candidate will be a leader who has successfully groomed high-potential leaders and who has a passion for developing executives and sharing their vast knowledge of success with the next generation of leaders.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

  • Ensure a safe work environment
  • Develop and manage annual plan and financial forecasting
  • Take ownership of projects with erosion or execution issues
  • Ensure all employees embrace a culture of exceeding client expectations
  • Ensure the consistent and universal execution of standards, programs and systems

Business Development

  • Meet or exceed the business sales goals
  • Develop sales strategy and communicate vision for achieving goals including growth targets
  • Ensure that the execution of strategy is properly implemented including strategic investments
  • Actively engage with business leaders on major sales pursuits and with strategic clients
  • Assume responsibility for cultivating assigned national / global accounts and relationships

Team Leadership

  • Ensure the effective execution of best practices for employee engagement
  • Proactively develop emerging leaders including personally mentoring individuals to drive organizational objectives and growth
  • Ensure robust recruiting processes are in place
  • Actively promote diversity and inclusion through networking, hiring and promotions
  • Actively engage in one or more prominent national associations to influence the industry and monitor market developments, network for talent and develop strategic relationships

SPECIFIC / SKILLS

  • Strong passion around safety and integrity in a construction business
  • Hands-on experience fixing troubled projects and business units
  • Experience leading a team who meets and exceeds client expectations
  • Able to drive a culture of consistently meeting and exceeding standards
  • Experience developing and managing annual planning and strategy
  • Comfortable with financial forecasting and management
  • Track record of outstanding performance in sales leadership
  • Demonstrated experience helping business units meet or exceed unit sales and profitability goals

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 25+ years of construction and building operations experience
  • Previous P&L leadership of a $1 billion construction business unit
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture or related
  • Master’s Degree preferred

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The EVP will report directly to the CEO.
