We are seeking a group leader to pursue, win, and execute new Transit and Infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have had experience leading projects and project pursuits, understands what clients want & need, and is able to paint a picture of the value proposition the team brings. In addition, this person needs to be practical in the selection of project to pursuits that are “winnable” and will be profitable. The group leader will develop a national strategy, build client relationships, and promote the company as a value-added, unique problem-solver, and solutions provider for increasingly smart transit and infrastructure projects. This newly created role requires a leader who is passionate about the next generation of cities, understands the ins and outs of transportation departments, and has a passion for growing a business. Our new leader will be a talent magnet, eternally optimistic, and a high-energy.

The incoming Leader will take over a group with a track record of helping the Washington D.C. DOT solve problems. They will manage the P&L, expand its reach in the local market, and will grow the Transit and Urban Infrastructure group into new geographies and services with an eye on growth and profits.

Specific areas for improvement include:

  • Establishing goals and metrics for the business
  • Creating a detailed vision, value-proposition, and delivery standards
  • Updating procurement and purchasing methods
  • Improving workforce forecasting
  • Developing Project Managers by challenging and mentoring them

The area of Smart Cities is changing rapidly, and cities are racing to improve their infrastructure and respond to consumer demand. Our client is one of the top innovators in the country and is motivated to take on new challenges and deliver best in class solutions. We seek an imaginative thinker who can connect deliverables with cost estimates, will imagine the city, and the support services of the future. Today the business is about $25M+, and our client has reasonable growth expectations of 12% per year.

The successful candidate will have a strong business mindset and a solid understanding of financially attractive projects as well as an understanding of the team’s fiscal impact on the broader organization. The team is currently identifying and executing smaller projects, but the successful leader will take advantage of all the resources that our client can deliver and will pursue more multidisciplined and complex projects.

Specific Skills / Experience / Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is preferred.
  • 15 years’ experience in transit and infrastructure design-build project management.
  • 5 or more years team management and P&L management is preferred.
  • Experience managing Superintendents, Project Managers, and Technicians.
  • Experience working with Municipalities and DOTs to win ever evolving Smart Parking, Illumination, Smart Signals and Traffic Management projects.
  • Successful experience with project pursuits cost estimating and bid experience.
