About this role

Our client is looking for a leader who will improve, expand, and solidify their presence in the Food & Beverage market. They seek a successful business professional committed to delivering success the right way with consistent project delivery, innovative client solutions, and outstanding customer service. The leader should be committed to executing their plan consistent with established management practices, corporate policies, and procedures and in alignment with the corporate mission, vision, and values.   

 We are seeking a construction executive that understands the metrics of a good project and profitable business line. This person should understand the elements of a successful project and be a mentor for others in the business. It will be their responsibility to develop and grow the company's presence in the Food & Beverage market to include growing areas such as pet food, protein, and dairy. The right leader should be experienced in organic growth and mindful of opportunities to jumpstart the business in new markets with joint ventures and small acquisitive opportunities.  

 They will take over a team with sixteen permanent employees and seven direct reports. The bulk of the current project teams are pulled from a pool of talent. The leader should have an excellent understanding of one or more segments of the Food & Beverage market, with demonstrated success in business development. They should have developed market strategies with an eye on financial outcomes, managed construction projects, and successfully led teams. Ideally, this leader will have a reputation for excellence and the ability to attract top talent that fits the existing culture as well as train and develop people. Strategic Responsibility

The Vice President, Food & Beverage, is responsible for:   

Business Strategy / Business Development 

  • Evaluates business opportunities and define strategic business direction within the market.  
  • Develops and implements action plans to achieve business targets for all services within the market as defined by the corporation’s strategic plan. 
  • Initiates new business initiatives to enhance the profitability of the core businesses. 
  • Manages key client and prospect relationships and monitors client satisfaction. 

Organizational & Personnel Development 

  • With executive support, manages the business to deliver services efficiently and profitably. 
  • With support, structures roles and responsibilities of the workforce to deliver projects in a fashion that meets or exceeds the expectations of the quality management program (QMP). 
  • With support, recruit educate and develop the people necessary to meet business needs. 

Operations / Service Delivery 

  • Manages bids and proposals for services to potential clients in the market segment. 
  • Recommends pricing strategies and proposals for approval by leadership. 
  • Participates in the development and negotiation of legal contracts for services. 
  • Ensures project conformance with all contractual commitments. 
  • With support, evaluates projects and identifies project staff, making recommendations to the COO about project staffing. 
  • Ensures that all project resources are in place and organized for effective and efficient project start-up. Involves Local Leadership as needed. 

Financial Management 

  • Ensures projects are planned, scheduled, and managed to achieve financial targets. 
  • Develops Pro-forma relating to business initiatives that recognize the corporation’s cost structure and financial reporting systems.  
  • Monitors the financial status of projects and business initiatives. 
  • Ensures all risks on the project are anticipated and actively managed (e.g.: Safety, Security). 
  • Monitors the payment of receivables from clients on projects and business initiatives. 
  • Manages the business unit's financial performance in terms of volume and margin.
  • Develops and shifts resources as required to maintain positive financial performance and to achieve goals established in the strategic planning process.
  • Monitors the financial status of projects by reviewing management reports and discussions with the President, COO, or EVP. 

Leadership and Management  

  • Participates in industry organizations. 
  • Keeps the President, COO or EVP informed of appropriate information and developments. 
  • With the President, COO or EVP formulates a future direction and strategy for the Company. 
  • Develops the resources and management systems to implement the Company’s strategy and to enhance its capability to satisfy clients and compete in the marketplace. 
Preferred Experience

Specific Skills / Education  

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B.A.) 
  • 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Makes effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to clients, public groups, and boards of directors.
