The company has created a new role of Senior Construction Manager (Sr. CM) for prime. We are looking for a construction leader with general construction experience to function as the onsite leader for all construction and site-related activities. The projects will typically be completed in the Western United States, but longer-term projects might be anywhere.  Total project sizes range from $50-150M, and the subcontracted portion of the contracts runs from 30-50% of the total project cost. The Sr. CM is also responsible for installing and interconnecting modular units fabricated and delivered to the site.  The Sr. CM reports to the overall Project Manager and administratively to the executive leadership team. This position for the right candidate can evolve into being the group leader with the oversight of other Construction Managers as part of their responsibilities.

The Sr. CM will typically be the first person on-site and need to set the tone for professionalism and safety. The Senior Construction Manager will be the company's primary representative at the site and responsible for: site orientation, set-up, sub-contractor identification and selection, scheduling, logistics, and site closeout. Day-to-day the Sr. CM will focus heavily on maintaining a safe environment, managing the daily progress and sub-contractor performance, field activities, and other support functions.

The Sr. Construction Manager is accountable to the Project Manager for timely execution of fieldwork following the requirements set forth by project management and in compliance with division procedures.

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Establish a culture and standard practices focused on professionalism and safety
  • Lead with effective communications: client representatives, the Project Manager, SBU Executive, and field staff through correspondence, meetings, and discussions as required to maintain close working relationships
  • Implement the Field Organization Plan by initiating required personnel actions for selection, assignment, and compensation of field staff
  • Execute the construction portion of project plans through detailed planning and day-to-day direction of field activities
  • Delegate to sub-managers functional responsibilities for construction engineering, craft supervision, contract administration, and construction control as appropriate and supervise their performance to comply with plans, specifications, procedures, and safe construction practices
  • Identify and control extra work
  • Oversee onsite support functions (safety, accounting, procurement, industrial relations) to assure conformity with project requirements
  • Delegate to sub-contractors all non-core competencies and oversee their daily function
  • Accomplish the safe and successful completion of the assigned project on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with the project drawings, specifications, and scope of work

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent degree is strongly preferred
  • 15 years of construction experience, including 5 years minimum experience in construction engineering or contract manager assignments
  • Proficiency in both verbal and written communication is required as the candidate will be responsible for managing communication with the client, multiple business divisions, and multiple sub-contractors
  • Willingness to travel and relocate for the life of the project with occasional travel home
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a federal security clearance
