Our client is a manufacturer of complex, machined components for the automotive, aerospace, and general industrial market segments. The facility procures, manages and machines over 4500 tons raw materials annually. The plant produces approximately 4500 stock items in the 150,000 square foot facility.

The business is an autonomous, stand-alone organization; part of a global parent company. Currently running under capacity, the company requires enhanced operations leadership who can make staffing and talent changes. Introducing LEAN manufacturing procedures is required. Moving from a reactive manufacturing process to a proactive, strategic manufacturing process is necessary.

THE ROLE

The incoming VP/GM will be charged with stabilizing the business and returning it to profitability. As a full P&L role, this person will need to demonstrate a track record of successfully balancing top-line and bottom-line growth in a similar business. Creating a more efficient and sustainable operations process and culture that embraces LEAN activities is required. The VP/GM will create a culture that is more team oriented, establish and implement efficient operations procedures and implement visual management on the plant floor. Qualified candidates will have a track record of managing complex manufacturing facilities and be able to create and deliver on a forward looking strategy that takes current business climate into account. The organization requires a GM who will hold the team accountable for performance.

  • Lead sustainable improvement to achieve the highest standard of customer service.
  • Plan and institute management practices like TPM, 5S, and Lean-manufacturing systems to achieve targeted production with quality and delivery bottom line.
  • Lead implementation of ERP system.
  • Drive and manage top line revenue growth opportunities and bottom line profitability improvements for production facility.
  • Evaluate and implement the latest manufacturing concepts and tools.
  • Identify and target new growth opportunities in adjacent markets.
  • Achieve cost reduction through process improvement, reduction of in-plant rejections, and material movement and the cost deductions.
  • Optimize utility of the existing resources, including personnel and capital equipment.
  • Develop and administer employee management-training, appraising, and staff development.

SPECIFIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • B.S or other technical degree in Production/Mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of operations experience in components engineering/manufacturing or related industrial engineering/manufacturing.
  • Full P&L management experience required.
  • Strong understanding of business financials required.
  • Production / mechanical engineering experience required.
  • Success in sales and customer-facing roles.
  • Practical knowledge of KANBAN, 5S, SIX SIGMA, TPM, TQM and other manufacturing related tools and system implementation.
  • Track record of fostering a pervasive culture and practice of quality.
  • Credible management, mentoring, and personal development experience of operations and technical leaders.
  • Analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on strategic planning.

  • This position reports to the CEO and manages the following direct, functional reporting areas: Finance, HR, Sales, Operations, Quality, and customer-facing Business Unit Managers.
